This series of posts is dedicated to the many, many six packs, pony kegs and pints that have sauntered into my life at one point or another.

Thanks to the best bar in town, I’ve been reminded of how much I enjoy the beers of New Hampshire’s Smuttynose Brewing Company. This time of the year, there are few things more enticing than a hearty winter ale. To the great credit of Smuttynose, theirs has the heavy body and rich flavor without being inundated with spices, more and more commonly pumped in at heightened levels in much the same way that hoppiness endurance tests were the norm across the craft brew world a few years ago. It’s just a fine beer, perfect for a brisk night when the warmth of the bar can offer respite from the howling winds outside.
